Request: Onionshare
they called him, the fish!
Re: Request: Onionshare
If it's in MXPI Backports, then it is available.

Re: Request: Onionshare
Debian testing has a slightly newer 1.3.2 version than backports I could try adding...But I see the developer has a PPA where he has 2.0, too.
Re: Request: Onionshare
Well, both 1.3.2 and 2.0 seem to work after building and installing, so I think 1.3.2 from Buster will go to main and 2.0 to testing, with the torbrowser-launcher dependency from backports going to main also.

Re: Request: Onionshare
I hadn't previously used flatpaks so maybe I screwed it up. I did see the flatpak in MXPI and tried it. Maybe I was too bleary eyed but I thought it worked the first time and hasn't launched since. I saw it at https://docs.onionshare.org/2.3/en/install.html
At any rate, I know it is probably a full court press on getting the new MX version ready but I thought I'd ask, is there any chance the current version of onionshare could be packaged for MX 19?

No, you didn't screw-up. The 2.5 software, once installed from the flatpak, runs just fine. The problem is, if you re-boot, (logout?) and try to run the software again, it refuses to launch. If you try to run it from a terminal, you get the following error message:fan_of_LTS wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 8:34 pm I hadn't previously used flatpaks so maybe I screwed it up. $ flatpak run org.onionshare.OnionShare
Gtk-Message: 19:32:28.624: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
Qt: Session management error: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed
Opening tab in existing OnionShare window (pid 2)
FWIW, canberra-gtk-module is installed, so it's not a missing library that's at fault.
Update: I finally got it working from the command-line, albeit not without a struggle.
To get it working, I had to do the following:
1) Install PIP3: pip3 install --user onionshare-cli
2) The executable is stored in /home/user/.local/bin with the executable named onionshare-cli
3) When I tried executing onionshare-cli, I got an error message to the effect that my version of Tor (0.4.5.x) was outdated. I then installed (0.4.6.8-1~bpo11+2) from the backports and was finally able to bring it up in a terminal.

Re: Request: Onionshare
@labrador_retriever, Thanks!
It is still the only flatpak I have. I did see that I added a comment to run flatpak update periodically. Also, bubblewrap is one of flatpaks' dependencies. I use firejail now but it may be worthwhile to switch to bubblewrap to avoid the suid program.
