#1 Post by faros »

When and where I put the E key. I am in the desktop with demo DVD iso. What exactly can I do? From this way? Reboot again. I don't understand.

I think you're installer crashed before finishing the install. Probably at the grub startup phase. Did you get a user creation screen?

we updated the installer on the 18.1 iso that we released on Saturday.

faros wrote: Tue Feb 12, 2019 12:18 pm I installed with iso dvd the mx Linux 18. Like demo had been working perfect. After the installation in all hard disk (120gb), I reboot the system from hard disk and I receive:
[FAIL] starpar:service(s) returned failure plymouth... Failed
and black monitor.
Could you try to add the "nomodeset" boot-parameter within the GRUB-menu and perhaps also disable plymouth splash.
Press E-key (for edit the grub-menu entry) navigate with arrow-keys (down, up, left right) to the line starting with "linux " and remove parameter "splash" and add parameter "nomodeset" at the end of the line.
Not sure whether it helps but worth a trial.

I reinstall the software. The message it's still in there when reboot the system. But it run very well. I can see my desktop   . I think was broken the previous installation. Thanks you very much. I think I will need you soon. It's different by Windows, but it's cool. You are necessary.

Great.
Ok, about the "E-key" thing.

To edit the GRUB-menu during boot:
When you boot up the pc/laptop you first see a GRUB-menu.
You would need to press the letter "e" or "E" on the keyboard. (Which I call the E-key ;=) to open the GRUB-editor.
Within the GRUB-editor can can navigate with the arrow-keys to the line starting with "linux" and append (add) or remove boot-parameters on that line. When finished you press "F10"-key to boot.
To see whether the error-message goes away, you could remove the "splash" parameter from that line.
Splash might not work properly due to missing nvidia driver.
...
Next you might try to install nvidia driver from with the MX Tools.

It's a whole lot easier using MX Boot Options...
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

Sure, but not in OP's first attempt booting to a black screen. ;)
