(Solved) I can't login as root !!
(Solved) I can't login as root !!
I am an MX 17 user and my system is normally updated.
I noticed today that I can't login as root but only as the first user.
I had created a second user account and I can't login to this account too.
Trying with Ctrl-Alt-F1 and giving the "root" name and password I got this : systemd-logind [3043] : Failed to start user service - ignoring unknown unit user@0.service
startx gives me a blank screen.
After this, I decided to install the 4.19.0.1 kernel with the mx tools , I also reset Lightdm with mx-tweak , it seems that all the work done successfully but ... the login problem for root and the second user remains.
Any help ?

Re: I can't login as root !!
Let's ignore that error for now, try "sudo passwd" and pick a new password for root and then try "su" to see if you can log in with the new password.

Thanks for your reply !
I tried it , but I can see the same user's name who can already login normally. I can't see how to affect the root or any other user's account .

Re: I can't login as root !!
I tried sudo passwd root ! I changed the password but the problem insists.
It is not a root or a user's password issue. If I give wrong password , the system reacts normally and tells me it is a wrong one but , if I give the correct one it can't continue and does nothing ....
Only one user can login normally.

I use the same partition for the MX system and the home directory. It seems that there is plenty of free room here to the moment. I keep my data in an other disk out of any OS partition.
