Conky randomly disappears [1 SOLVED, another to do ]
Hello,
Throughout the day I notice that over time my conky will disappear. Unfortunately, bc I'm working through the day and windows are covering it mostly - I can't pinpoint a specific action that might trigger the behavior. I tried finding some type of log file but didn't see any in /var/log for conky.
It isn't a major deal but thought I would get help in the event the solution found could help someone else. I'm running MX 17 default session.
p.s. The ONLY thing I could imagine might be a culprit is that I do have a mini-hdhmi to vga chord to my monitor. I sometimes have to take it off the external monitor for meetings and put it back on...I wonder if that has to do anythign with it, but might be a stretch. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Re: Conky randomly disappears
I know how to make my disappear. I just roll the wheel on my mouse to switch workspaces and now my conky is gone. Are you doing anything when this randomly happens?

Re: Conky randomly disappears
Try looking in /var/log/syslog. Sometimes it's a crash or segfault or whatever and it will be in there then.

Which conky? We had that problem with one (can't remember ATM which) but fixed it upstream. Haven't packaged it yet.

Re: Conky randomly disappears
I had a similar situation with my Conky -- I eventually figured out that any time I clicked on my desktop (even icons), my Conky would disappear. To get it to come back, I would have to click on "Conky Toggle" twice to get it to come back (which means it wasn't crashing, it was still running, so the first toggle would turn it off, and the second would turn it back on and make it visible).
It turns out, I found a misspelling in the config file for the window properties for the Conky I use, and as a result, when I clicked on the desktop, the Conky would "fall" behind my desktop. Once I corrected the config file, it's been fine ever since.

It would be very helpful if you actually shared what you found, so the bit of code :)

Re: Conky randomly disappears
@asqwerth - thanks for that. That was the fix.
I'm not the best with tinkering config files, but it was simple enough once I saw that there were two locations that read similar things (cited from your post you linked) to change from
own_window_type desktop
to
own_window_type normal
{the place where it worked was right before the OUTPUT section}
The specific one I use is the MX-Asq/MX-GeekyTowerLogo
:D Glad I don't have to give that up - it is one of my favs.
Thanks everyone for their input/assistance.

Re: Conky randomly disappears [ SOLVED ]
Ok. I thought I had my conky toggle issue fixed. While my computer is on after a while, I notice that my time display at the top of my desktop starts artifacting . What is going on? A box appears then the time can't be read. I tried attaching a picture here but it says the file is too large. Any ideas?

My idea is...give us enough info so we can make a judgment!
