Antix 17.x Graphical Installer
Antix 17.x Graphical Installer
I have an Asus Netbook with Cerelon N4000/4Gb RAMs/32Gb eMMC. I want to dual boot with MX18 and Antix but couldn't get the graphical installer or live Antix OS to show up on the live CD. I only have the cli option, which is too hard for me. I did try the cli option to partition the emmc flash drive but it seemed not to recognize it as sdax, must be my not knowing what to do. I never had the live Antix OS launching issue with the old Asus HA1000 netbook and Antix 14.
Please let me know what I need to do to boot up the live CD (usb). I burnt the iso file in Debian using dd the same way for Antix as well as MX18, which is now on my netbook. Thanks.

Re: Antix 17.x Graphical Installer
which antiX iso did you download? FWIW, core is cli-only, so you would want base or full.

Re: Antix 17.x Graphical Installer
It's the full iso versions of 17.1, 17.2, and 17.3. Somehow, I couldn't get the same initial screen with the other extra options at the bottom as shown in the DolphinOracle video. Whichever options that I got took me to the cli or the other verbose cli. I even tried downloading the iso from 3 different mirrors.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Antix 17.x Graphical Installer
does that netbook boot UEFI? Do you get a graphical boot menu of any kind, and if so what are the options?

Re: Antix 17.x Graphical Installer
the other thing to try is to use the live-usb-maker tool on your mx 18 install to make the USB.

Yes, the netbook does boot UEFI. The graphical boot menu gives me only these options at the top screen and nothing on the middle/bottom screen"
antiX-17.3.1 x64-full (27 December 2018)
antiX-17.3.1 x64-full Customized Boot (text menus)
>>>Advanced Options for antiX-17.3.1 x64-full <<<
Memory Test (64-bit UEFI)
I will try the live-usb-maker tool next. Thanks!

Re: Antix 17.x Graphical Installer
This internal 32GB eMMC drive will probably listed as
/dev/mmcblk0 instead of /dev/sda
and partitions will be shown as:
/dev/mmcblk0p1 instead of /dev/sda1
/dev/mmcblk0p2 instead of /dev/sda2
etc.
So if thats the only issue, that you cannot find the "sdax", than probably all is good.

Ok, you are fine. So the Customized Boot Menus (text menus) duplicate the F-key functions on the legacy boot menu that I generally show on my youtube videos.mickb wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 11:20 am Yes, the netbook does boot UEFI. If you are not getting to a graphical environment, but rather the text login, I suggest booting with the failsafe option (there is a menu option for it) that may allow your graphical environement to boot up.

Re: Antix 17.x Graphical Installer
Thanks for your help, dolphin_oracle. There's no change using the live-usb maker tool. I did try the fail-safe option again but I still got the cli options. Previously, the installer (cli) recognized the /dev/mmcblk0p1 and /dev/mmcblk0p2 as you've indicated but when I entered the mmcblk0p1 or mmcbl0p2 in the selection, it doesn't seem to recognize it. That's when I gave up on antiX installation and went with MX. I think it has to do with the uEFI thing like you said in the video but I'm lousy with non-graphical installations and I'd rather not switch the bios to legacy.

Re: Antix 17.x Graphical Installer
I doubt it's the UEFI because antix and mx are identical in that regard.
What is different is the graphics stack.
