Does anyone with Google Earth 7 x64 direct from Google have it crash with Search?

#1 Post by Stevo »

Since the new machine's Intel graphics supports GE 7, I installed it and encountered this problem. Editing the /opt/google/earth/free/googleearth text file as root and making the last three lines read

Code: Select all

export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0
export LC_NUMERIC=en_US.UTF8
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH ./googleearth-bin "$@"
for 64-bit. If 32-bit users have the same issue, the first line should be modified to point to the location of that file on their system

/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0

The google-earth installed by MX Linux 17-1 is 7.3.2.5495 (64-bit) Pro Stable.

Anyone experienced crash with Search on this version of Google-Earth?

Fonts ...Ugly fonts . Never repaired this issue by google-earth.

Yeah...since I got Bumblebee working so I can use the Nvidia GPU with it, I upgraded to the latest version (it still won't work with the "intel" driver, modesetting is OK) and edited the entry in the menu to add "optirun" at the start. But the Qt libraries now don't match ours, so the theming and font selection don't work, but at least searching works now.

I did understood nothing :D

Still google-earth crash with search.
Which is the latest working version of google-earth. Also with fonts ?

In my SparkyLinux64 bit I found that working version is

Code: Select all

https://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/google_earth/stable/main/base/google-earth-pro-stable
Google Earth Pro
7.3.0.3832 (64-bit)

Code: Select all

http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb/pool/main/g/google-earth-pro-stable/google-earth-pro-stable_7.3.0.3832-r0_amd64.deb

I will try this version in MX Linux64 bit.

YEP !
This version functions correctly on MX Linux64 bit (WTF ?)

Also...today I found that executing my file as sh myfile.sh gives a kind of error ( the file has random function inside).
I googled and find that the correct execution is bash myfile.sh ( buuu . never gves me error before).

Hmmm. What such kind of problems? I remember that MX Linux was much more solid times ago :D!

My fonts look OK, just smaller on my HDPI screen than I have the rest of the system set to, plus it sticks with a light theme when my system theme is dark. This is much like the latest Virtual Box from Oracle looks like on MX 15/16 with its older Qt5.

I think my current version is via the MX-PI.
It didn't crash when searching but it is weird since upgrading from v6.

The view pane is empty. Have to open a view in Google maps to see the result. :)

Yes, the new version does not work with the "intel" driver for Intel GPUs, but I have heard it does with the modesetting driver. I have a deb of an older GE Pro that also works with the intel driver, too..someone has it on Google Drive.

For the mode setting, just using the cheat code will help make gEarth v7x work?
I don't use it much but it is handy.
If there's a link to the older version would be worth a try.

Well, no. Your Intel GPU has to support the modesetting driver in the kernel. "inxi -G" will report what you're using.

You can try the older 7.1.8 version linked to in this thread: https://productforums.google.com/forum/ ... HTPNCzW4EA

As I said on my previous post:

This version works on my Lenovo X201i. Fonts are so,so.
