Just replaced other distro with MX.
On my main computer I have, at last, replaced my oddly underperforming Mint 18 with MX 17 after a couple of months playing with it on an older semi broken laptop I was given.
I do like MX and the support here has been nothing short of magnificent, totally different to what many say about Debian based distro forums.
I used the copy of 17 I had previously downloaded instead of downloading 17.1 all over again, and did so from a special dedicated USB flash stick which I carry around with me when I demonstrate it to non believing Windows users.
In fact recently on an educational lorry drivers course, it came in handy when the lecturer's laptop running Windows 10 decided to do a compulsory update whilst he was trying to do a presentation. Finished off the course running MX in live mode! He was very impressed.

Re: Just replaced other distro with Mint.
I switched from Mint to LMDE, as I didn't like the Ubuntu base. Always seemed to use more memory than needed, and seemed tardy with certain security updates. I stayed with LMDE through to LMDE2, but some updates started to get neglected. I finally gave up on waiting for LMDE3 last year... been much happier with MX Linux since.
Strange thing with Mint, development seemed to get slower the more donations they received... $10,000+ some months (Mods: please delete the previous sentence if against forum policy... not sure how it reads to others)

Now I've got to re=install it. it seems to go completely haywire when I use Facebook. with me losing control of mouse, or even able to click on stop.
Re: Just replaced other distro with MX.
Don't reinstall just yet. Instead install a decent adblocker and see if the behaviour changes for the better. Over the past few months I've noticed that some ads cause Chrome and Firefox to completely lock up.

I only use Waterfox and Ublock Origin is already running in it. That set up is rock steady on my other older Dell laptop.
Waiting for 17.1 x64 torrent to download on other partition.

I wonder if you would just add another user and verify the system behaviour logged as the new user. If ok, just reset the first user.turtlebay777 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 5:07 pmNow I've got to re=install it. it seems to go completely haywire when I use Facebook. with me losing control of mouse, or even able to click on stop.

Sorry guys, re-installation nearly finished. Other one was too unstable to even log in to.Luckily I had another Linux (Mint 17.3) to access torrent site from.fehlix wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 6:00 pmI wonder if you would just add another user and verify the system behaviour logged as the new user. Good deal. Still, look at the MSVP Hosts file filter in uBlock, or just install it directly. It will make a biiig difference.turtlebay777 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 5:36 pmI only use Waterfox and Ublock Origin is already running in it. That set up is rock steady on my other older Dell laptop.
