Update request: gImageReader v3.2.3
Update request: gImageReader v3.2.3
Here I’m again, nagging the superb MX Linux Team with an update request.
Would it be possible to update gImageReader to version 3.2.3 (stable release)?
Currently available in Synaptic is v3.2.0 (Nov 23, 2016), quite a few bug fixes and improvements since then.
gImageReader is a simple Gtk/Qt front-end GUI to Tesseract-OCR,
with the ability to extract Text from PDFs and most importantly from Images, by selecting an area of them so that one can extract their text.
https://github.com/manisandro/gImageReader
https://packages.debian.org/buster/gimagereader
https://launchpad.net/~sandromani/+arch ... magereader
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimagereader/
Many thanks for considering my request.
Cheers!!

Re: Update request: gImageReader v3.2.3
Hmmm---looks like there's also a newer tesseract 4.0 in stretch-backports. Would you like it built against that if there's a choice between that and building against the stock Debian version?
Re: Update request: gImageReader v3.2.3
+1. Good request and a good tool. I would vote for the newer Tesseract-OCR. I'm also using this tool.
And a good package team

Re: Update request: gImageReader v3.2.3
That's a good point Stevo. Thank you for asking.
But I'd rather stick with the current Tesseract 3.0.4 or 3.0.5 versions.
Even the Tesseract Team states that version 4.0 still in Beta:
https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/releases.
Besides, the gImageReader Team advises that "using tesseract 4 are to be considered experimental",
either for their latest v3.2.99 (Beta release)
https://github.com/manisandro/gImageRea ... ag/v3.2.99
and for version 3.2.3 (my request).
Cheers !!

Re: Update request: gImageReader v3.2.3
Good point. And we would avoid potential gscan2pdf issues.

Completely agree fehlix. ( and yes, a superb Package Team, and Moderators )

Re: Update request: gImageReader v3.2.3
Here's the build against vanilla Stretch libraries, then: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1jXJyX ... vmW7RZn4uF
Sending it to the test repo, too.

Re: Update request: gImageReader v3.2.3
Worked with this new version today (3.2.3), and so far, could not find a glitch. Very pleased with it
From my experience this updated version is a Big improvement over the previous one (3.2.0)
Thank you, Stevo.
