on a Virtual Box install. I just changed the main Debian repo release name to Buster and disabled the two update repos. I don't know if there's an equivalent antiX repo, so I just left that as is. Then I upgraded in MX Updater, which went pretty smoothly, then rebooted.
I didn't see any big difference in the boot at all...it's still using the 4.15 MX 17.1 kernel, but I plan to switch over to the Buster kernels. The MX apps seem to all still work in a quick run-through, even though they were compiled on Stretch. This is encouraging for in-place upgrades to MX 19 when that time comes. I'm pretty sure we can use mx-apps or mx-system to automatically pull in a new kernel, too, or maybe we can just come up with an upgrade script.
Just tried an update to Debian testing base for MX 17.1

Most of the apps are actually compiled on Jessie. I want to keep them compatible with both MX15/16 and MX17.
Re: Just tried an update to Debian testing base for MX 17.1
there r a lot of beta/rc in mx17.1, won't it will be better if update those?
eg. grub2 in beta? rather use a stable version than latest beta or a release version over a beta version.

antiX repo would also have to be set to testing.
