While I'm a Star Trek fan too, this sounds like Windows Enterprise Edition...

In the 'Manage popular packages' section inside MX Tools. Instead of having installed apps be greyed out (IMO this loooks like they're not available) - perhaps have them checked and replace the Install and Uninstall buttons with a single Apply button. So to uninstall something, uncheck it and apply - likewise for installing apps.

Frankly I would find that more confusing. Quite clear to me as it is.

Hi Rich. How do you find it confusing? It's the same method that Synaptic uses.

Synaptic has a grayed box for uninstalled and a colored box with a check mark for installed. Not quite the same.

They are not greyed out in Synaptic. They are non-colored. The method is the same as my suggestion. How is having an unchecked box and checked box with an Apply button (like in Synaptic) confusing?
