Our social media experiment

#1 Post by Jerry3904 »

I frankly didn't know what to expect a few months ago when our Twitter and Facebook accounts started up (both linked off the MX Linux Home page).

But it is gratifying to see that our Twitter account just got its 100th follower, and the multiplication potential of that group is impressive. One of these days when I am bored I am going to add the number of followers each of followers has. We tweeted the release of antiX 16.1, and I would like to believe that that helped produce the great download numbers that anti published earlier.

The FB account has nearly as many members itself. And they talk to each other, reducing the load on the Forum! I find it interesting to see what is brought up, and how others react. Many thanks to Billy Grubbs for starting and administering it.

They're both pretty neat, and I urge anyone interested to join the action.

Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

We also passed 200th subscribers at Google Plus and I think people over there find it useful when we post announcements (like new snapshots and the like).

I think in this digital world it's good to go where the users are rather then expect them to come to a specific forum.

And by the way, neither of us (me or Jerry) is a Twitter or Google Plus active "social media" users so the results are pretty good considering that we are beginners in the field and (at least me) not very social.

Thanks. Wasn't totally sure that Google + was social media...

I use Google+ insomuch as a blog (having gmail alone opens such options), although I skip the circles and others things it offers. It links in well with FB and Twitter all the same. I agree that FB has generated some independent problem-solving options and discussion.

I don't use Twitter at all, but find Google+ fits in very nicely with Linux and other geeky interests.

Yeah, there seem to be very different social groups and interests associated with the three. I ignore Google +, don't use Twitter (except in this disguise), and almost never touch my Facebook page--though I do keep LinkedIn active for professional purposes.

I deleted Linked in when I figured out it sends emails and messages in my stead, I considered that too sleazy. But I'm not a good example of a social person, I suspended Facebook more than 2 years ago. I don't use Twitter and I pretty much only post on G+ the monthly snapshot announcements. I guess this forum is my mainly (computer based) social interaction.

Social network is a paradoxical expression. We have never been so near but so far at the same time. It's good to have this mean to communicate given we live in remote countries. But I enjoy having real friends in real life  .
And anyway Adrian, I agree with LinkedIn behaviour. I barely use it anymore. And never ever use Facebook nor Twitter

The only reason I have a Facebook account is so I can read the comments to the Bloom County (https://www.facebook.com/berkeleybreathed) timeline photos, haven't even responded to sister's "friend me" request from almost a year ago.

My daughter keeps me informed (along with my brother) about facebook stuff that might interest me. Twitter is not interesting (to me) unless it makes the evening news.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.
