auto login in mx-14.4 kde

#1 Post by uncle mark »

I'm setting up a new user with MX-14.4 with KDE on an older Dell desktop.

During the install, I chose NOT to set up auto login. I now want to change that, and can't for the life of me see where that option can be set. It's not in the normal place in KDE, presumably since kdm isn't installed/used, but I'm not smart enough with Xfce to figure out where it can be set in the native Xfce login manager.

Thanks in advance.

(BTW, this guy is going to flat out love this when he gets it back.)
Custom build Asus/AMD/nVidia circa 2011 -- MX 19.2 KDE
Acer Aspire 5250 -- MX 21 KDE
Toshiba Satellite C55 -- MX 18.3 Xfce
Assorted Junk -- assorted Linuxes

Do not know about KDE on MX, but on M-12 it is under System Settings, System Administration, Login Screen. Maybe it will help till someone who knows can post.

If you're using MX's default lightdm as the desktop manager, you'll probably need to edit the /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf file as root.

See here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Li ... _autologin

Ignore the pam references in the Arch wiki (I have no idea what that is). Just go to [Seat Defaults] in the conf file, and uncomment the line that says

#autologin-user=YOURUSERNAME
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

But you are definitely smart enough to look in the Users Manual:

http://www.mepiscommunity.org/user_manu ... ection-8.5

Or to use Ctrl-F "autologin" to find it if necessary...
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin
