Hi Mike.

You said "come and get it".

If support for Windows 10 is a primary benefit for this release, I'll not be using it!!

I've only backdated VLC to take advantage of the teletext package matching a previous build, but do use Iceweasel in MX, having come to accept it as essentially the same thing. In M12 I have both and they seem to be different skins so to speak, showing a small window notification as this occurs (eg If I last ran Iceweasel, close and start Firefox. (not that I boot M12 often now).

Enabling the CR, adding a specific package and disabling in the sources list is the drill I've picked up from reading threads so that's easy.

The only queries I have are:

1) Once a newer build like Firefox here makes it to the standard repositories will I expect Synaptic to then continue upgrading as with any other applications, per usual via Synaptic?

2) Will Iceweasel and Firefox co-exist in MX, or is it better to chose one, and remove the other?

Surely you can't be serious.

The CR Firefox and Iceweasel will remove each other. They can't coexist because each plants a /usr/bin/firefox symlink to their start script, because some programs look for that, and two packages cannot share a file.

For now, Firefox is only in the main MEPIS CR for both MEPIS and MX 14, so that has to be enabled for any automatic updates. You can get backports of newer Iceweasel versions from the semiofficial mozilla.debian.net, which are built by the Debian packagers, but they take a few days to appear there, since they build from source code instead of using the precompiled Moziila version like we do.

It is possible to have both installed. It isn't possible to have both open at the same time. So just pick one and use it. There's no advantage to having both they use some common files.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

Okay, carp boy, I've got a perfectly good, working, not crashing load of Fx 38.0.1 on this MX-14 KDE laptop.

I'm going to unpin it and update it. I hope I don't have to come after you...
