Tim hasn't checked in yet today, so I'm unsure how quickly we can get that done.
Production: 4.15.0-1-amd64, MX-17.1, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 8 GB, Kingston SSD 120 GB and WesternDigital 1TB
Testing: AAO 722: 4.15.0-1-386. MX-17.1, AMD C-60 APU, 4 GB

I personally left Firefox several months ago as it was prone to problems. I use Palemoon & Chrome stable and all works well...

Solutions at the level of the individual user are easy, but a distro-wide one is harder.

Just got this PM from him:
Firefox 43.0 has been pulled from all distros (M11, M12, MX-15).

I'll put 42.0 back up for now but it will take a while to upload.

preliminary finding: commenting out these entries in distribution.ini produced a working html5 player (no need so far to delete an existing profile).

Code: Select all

#media.mediasource.enabled=true
#media.mediasource.webm.enabled=true
#media.fragmented-mp4.ffmpeg.enabled=true
#media.fragmented-mp4.gmp.enabled=true
#media.fragmented-mp4.exposed=true

these are now all default settings as shipped from mozilla, so I assume that there is some sort of setting conflict with the same settings in distribution.ini

youtube.com/html5 still shows good on html5 playback.

Mozilla has also released version 43.0.1, so distribution.ini can be modified when we package that. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/43.0.1/

It appears to fix only a problem in Windows, though.

I agree with that. It is a major problem and no need to put it into test since we already know it fails.
What I meant was, like for other new packages, from here on out, put new releases of firefox into test and once it's been tested and found not to have major hiccups, move it into main.

more info:
So I've been going back and forth with the firefox dev. this is the offending line:

media.fragmented-mp4.gmp.enabled=true

the current default is/should be false. they are using some sort of new scheme for "adaptive HTML5" playback.

Here's 32 & 64 bit firefox-43.0.1 debs for M12/MX-14 (only) that has media.fragmented-mp4.gmp.enabled set to false. I installed this one on top of an existing broken 43.0 and youtube video seems to work now.

Edit: - Removed package link -

If anybody has time to check this and confirm the problem is gone, I'll send a full fixed set up.
