[Solved]Stucking before starting XFCE
[Solved]Stucking before starting XFCE
Good afternoon,
yesterday my system ran smoothly but now due to ever reason while booting it stucks and does not get into XFCE.
The only thing what I am seeing is a blinking cursor. Launched console is is throwing
FAIL startpar: service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... failed!
Any advice what needs to be done in order to fix it ?
thanks in advance

Re: Stucking before starting XFCE
It hasn't fixed it entirely.
Now I get in to XFCE, however, after I type in the credentials XFCE starts again.
any further advice ?

See if you can log in as root. If so, please run MX Tools/Quick System Info, then right-click paste into a reply. (Quick System Info automatically copies the information to the clipboard and formats it properly for the forum so all you have to do is paste it.) Thanks.

Re: Stucking before starting XFCE
The only thing I can think of to try is when logged in as root, go to /home/YourUserName (whatever your normal logon name is), open a terminal and run
again, replacing "YourUserName" with whatever you actual login name is.
Usually, when you get returned to the login prompt it's either a permissions issue which that command should fix, or it's a free space issue in the /home directory.
Code: Select all
chown -R YourUserName:YourUserName *

Re: Stucking before starting XFCE
change the ownership without success!
strange..as root it works. My user does not!
But the failure FAIL startpar: service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... failed! is still there. May be this is related to this issue?
any further idea?

Re: Stucking before starting XFCE
Just as a troubleshooting step, as root and in the menu go to MX Tools/MX Tools, open User Manager, and under Add User Account create a new user then log out and try logging in as that user just to see what happens.
