ACER V5-573G suspend mode

#1 Post by baz42 »

I’ve go a couple of issues with suspending of my V5-573G.

1. When I’m switching the laptop to suspend mode for the first time after rebooting: laptop goes to suspend and after 2 seconds it wakes up. So I have to login and put the laptop to suspend again. Next time laptop suspends properly till the reboot when everything repeats again.

2. After several suspend-wake up cycles (5-10) OS freezes while attempting to wake up(just black screen). Sometimes helps pressing the ctrl-alt-backspace but sometimes not.

Are there any plans to improve stability of MX Linux in that case? Or it happens with my laptop only?

This is not a general stability question. In our testing of suspend during development, we found that it usually depends on the interaction between the kernel and the GPU. Our standard advice is to try changing kernels.

Please click Menu > Quick System Info, then paste back the results inside code tabs (the button </>).
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

You could also test whether switching to the "intel" driver in MX Tweak works better.

Are you suspending by the hotkey combo or through XFCE?

I've tried doing it from Menu. As common I'm just closing laptop's cover after setting up action "suspend" for that event if XFCE power manager.

I've changed the kernel from 4.19 to 5.1.12-antix. Still have wakes up frim first suspend after reboot. Should I try other kernels?

I had something similar after I switched to a straight Bluetooth mouse (no USB dongle). Machine would suspend, then 2 seconds later, it would wake again. Only difference to yours is mine simply would not suspend. Do you by any chance have any straight Bluetooth devices paired with your machine?

Nope. I've tried once to connect laptop to my smartphone as an access point via BT. And it didn't worked. Anyway in my case wakes up are happens only once after every reboot.
Did you checked your BIOS settings? All wake up events should be switched off. It is have to be enough to turn off USB events for your USB mouse dongle.

Thanks Baz42. I think you misunderstood what I said. My Bluetooth mouse is 100% bluetooth and it does not have a dongle. It requires pairing with a machines internal bluetooth wireless transciever, which is why I called it a "straight bluetooth" mouse. It's an expensive mouse but it takes 2 AA batteries, which makes it heavier than what I like, so I gave it to my son who uses it with his chromebook. I could have simply added a one-liner to power down my laptops bluetooth transciever on sleep to /etc/pm/config.d if I really wanted to keep using it, but this thread is not about me, it's about you.

You can also try the 4.9 Debian kernel, which is compatible with Haswell hardware, and/or also try switching to the "intel" video driver using MX Tweak instead of the kernel modesetting driver you are using now.

M_pav, got it.

Thank you for shedding light for me on that type of wireless mouses :D

Ok, I'll try the both ways.
