TCP: eth0: Driver has suspect GRO implementation, TCP performance may be compromised.

#1 Post by Eadwine Rose »

I ran a google on this, found this page:

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194569

Doesn't seem to be affecting the eth performance or anything, so I don't need anything done with it. I saw it pop up in my syslog earlier and figured I'd report it.

Ran into this on the new system as well now.

Nothing major and speed is not affected.

Some of those realtek 8168 chipsets do better with the r8168 driver instead of the default r8169 one. One of my machines connects at 100mb/s instead of 1000mb/s with r8169.
This bug is fixed in the 5.x series kernels.

If you're staying with 4.19 there is a debian package you can install to switch to the r8168 driver if you like. It's incompatible with the fixed kernels.

But if you're running full speed already I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks. Yeah I have a big download weekly, and things are going up to the max , so I wager all is ok. Good to know though for those who do have issues. 🙂 Thanks!
