Suspend Problems on Lenovo Thinkpad

There seems to be a number of posts here on the forum concerning the Suspend function. I'm using MX 18.1 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T400 with Xfce & MATE desktops. All runs well except for Suspend. It kicks in by either pushing the power button or closing the lid. When trying to wake up using the power button or the lid the screen comes up and then immediately goes black. Pushing the ESC key then brings up the Login screen. Other times, pushing the power button to suspend doesn't work. The suspend/sleep light just blinks on and off and nothing happens. The only way to recover from this is to rebooit. Is this a known bug in 18.1 and is there a fix for this? Otherwise, quite happy with MX Linux. Thanks.

I have had no issues with suspend myself, but could you please post the output of Quick System Info in the Start Menu or inxi -Fxrz from the terminal in code brackets?.

When it comes back up with the login screen, can you enter your password to see if you can get back to your session?

I'd also try installing and running the stock Debian 4.9 kernel, using MX PI, to see if it's just a quirk restricted to the 4.19 kernel.

Just thought I'd add my 2cents.

I have a T420 and sometimes the login screen comes up after suspend, other times the screen comes up as it was before suspend, the mouse moves but you can't do anything. I can go to another console screen and login, but X other than the mouse pointer seems hung.

Is this a known bug in 18.1

No. (But for 19.x due to new Xfce). I'm also on 18.3 (though not .1) , it's almost perfect :)

Meanwhile, have you checked Power Management all tabs? At least I can suggest: change all "Hibernate" or "Sleep" etc. to "suspend" particularly.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 and with a fresh install of MX 19.2 the same problems.

Any ideas what can help? Can someone confirm this bugs?
