It's in Debian upstream, and at first glance looks like it will build on MX, so I'll give it a try.

Tried to install 1.51 from test repo. It doesn't load after upgrading from 1.4 It flashes an open terminal screen then nothing. Back to 1.4 for now. Maybe there is something off with my MxLinux 18.1 install?

Hmmm--might need a newer libgtkmm-3.0, let me give that a try.

It turns out that it really needs a newer GTK 3 >= 3.24 to run. Should be reported as a bug to the lifeograph devs so they can update the minimum requirements, or revert the change that requires it.

I heard back from lifegraph developer & he said that 1.51 is dependent on 3.22 so I dont know what to do next.

This is what he wrote

First of all, Lifeograph 1.5 depends on Gtk+ 3.22 not 3.24. Gtk+ 3.22
was released in 2016 so it should be supported on most of the operating
systems by now. Unfortunately, 3.22 features are used so extensively now
that it cannot be removed so easily. If you cannot upgrade your OS
please stick to Lİfeograph 1.4 branch until such time as your OS meets
the minimum dependencies for newer Lifeograph versions.

** Changed in: lifeograph
Status: New => Won't Fix

** Changed in: lifeograph
Importance: Undecided => Low

Out of curiosity I made a try. Stevo is right : lifeograph 1.5.1 needs gtk 3 >= 3.24 to work.

Well, sorry to disagree with the developer, but we do have 3.22 on MX, and it really really really needs what I said it needs above. The error it throws in the terminal shows that it's missing a call that was only added in 3.24.

The developer was rather close minded, when I reached out about the issue. I get the impression that he hasn't really checked the program & going on assumptions. He isn't willing to fix it.
Can you give me more specifics about the code call so I can pass on the info? Or maybe someone such as yourself as a distro developer would have more clout & credibility making the statement that it needs fixed?
I contacted him through launchpad portal.

It fails in the terminal with this message:

ERROR: BuilderError: /usr/share/lifeograph/ui/lifeograph.ui:400:43 Invalid property: gtkmm__GtkListBoxRow.action_name

GtkListBoxRow was only added in GTK+ 3 3.24
