Hosts file
Why isn't there a hosts subfolder in the etc folder? If there is, I cannot see it, even with root permission.

Re: Hosts file
Because debian does not use a hosts or host folder in /etc

Re: Hosts file
Don’t know why you have not got a host file there should be one. Have use it with web sites from http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/ since MX14. Just to check you have scrolled down far enough it is a file and not a folder (apologies if I have just stated the obvious).

@Eadwine Rose: yes, I have those too. I apologise for the question. In antiX and e.g. in Ubuntu the hosts file resides in the Hosts folder, itself in the etc folder.Eadwine Rose wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 2:18 pm I have inside /etc/

Re: Hosts file
@PondLife: you are right, my apologies. In antiX and e.g. Ubuntu there is a Hosts folder in the etc folder, and the hosts files reside in that Hosts folder, which is what I was looking for. Sorry. I should have looked further.PondLife wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 2:13 pm Don’t know why you have not got a host file there should be one. Re: Hosts file
Oh no it doesn't, There is no hosts folder in /etc on antiX. No idea about Ubuntu. As I posted, it is Debian policy/decision Not to have a host(s) folderKlaas Vaak wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 2:39 pm

Re: Hosts file
You are right that it does not exist in antiX either. I am also looking at Ubuntu and have an issue with an amended hosts file that I am trying to resolve. That's how I got my knickers in a twist ;-) Thanks for the correction.anticapitalista wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 4:12 pmKlaas Vaak wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 2:39 pm

BTW, is there a specific reason you know of why Debian decided that?
P.S. in Ubuntu it doesn't either ! I have been busy with Autohosts and that got me a bit confused.
