Ah okay, fair enough, thanks. One thing to consider, MX 16 didn't ship a compton.conf file activated by default, while 17 does. You could try running compton without a conf file, see where that takes you...colin_b wrote:I tried both with the same result.

Re: Compton compositor query
The video driver setup is pretty different under stretch than it was under jessie. What graphics driver is in use on your machine?

Re: Compton compositor query
I was really hoping to find an obvious problem with the drivers, but I don't see one.
Do you get similar issues with the Xfce compositor?

Re: Compton compositor query
I've had no problems with the Xfce compositor, it has worked flawlessly.dolphin_oracle wrote:Do you get similar issues with the Xfce compositor?
To be honest I can live without using Compton. I know this is the cause of the problem because I am greeted by a blank screen after enabling it and rebooting - it can't be anything else. The thing that bothers me is that Compton may be causing problems on other peoples' computers, but these problems may not be as immediately attributable to Compton as they are on my PC. As an example, it strikes me that Compton might cause viewtopic.php?f=97&t=44374 - it's just a guess, but the symptoms bear similarity to what I have experienced.
Would it be possible for the MX 16 version of Compton to be put in the test repo? If this is done then I'll create a live version of MX 17 on USB, uninstall Compton from it, and then install the old version to see if the problem still exists.
