Black screen when coming back from suspend

#1 Post by relarDevi »

I tried deactivating the screensaver, thinking maybe it had something to do with it, but yeah, nothing.

I'm not very knowleagble other than basic Linux stuff, so I would appreciate some help.

Thanks!

Hello,
For information, I have already had this issue, and for me it' was a kernel configuration issue (with modules security option I guess ?). Maybe you can try an other kernel?

After Suspend, I get a black screen with a slow, blinking power button on the T430.
Pressing the power button brings back the screen to where I was before.

Sorry, I have no other experiences to offer for your problem.
Perhaps Google with «your computer name suspend problem»
to see what others with same hardware have seen.

Hibernation is not activated on my MX-17.0 UTD.

One thing you can try is clicking CTRL-ALT-F1 when you get the blinking cursor. Enter your username and user password, then type startx and see if the desktop appears. If it does hopefully someone will come along and tell you how to avoid this procedure and boot directly into the desktop.

Well, as I've seen a couple of similar issues recently, and thought I might provide an alternative approach.
But you would need to do something in order to find out, whether it fixes your suspend-issue.
Would you mind to help us to help you by doing the following :happy: :
Copy the below text-code into an new file as follows.
Open from the menu the text editor (the default is featherpad).
Paste the below text-code into the empty editor.

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
# fehlix system suspend desktop icon
# save this to suspend.desktop
Type=Application
Name=Suspend
Comment=System suspend via pm-suspend
Exec=pkexec "/usr/sbin/pm-suspend"
Icon=system-suspend
Path=
Terminal=false
StartupNotify=false
Categories=XFCE;Settings;
Save the file with the name "suspend.desktop" onto your Desktop.
Don't change the filename or at least don't change the file-extension ".desktop"
at the end of the filename.
Now close the text editor.

You will now find a new desktop-starter "Suspend"-icon
system-suspend.png
on your desktop.
When you now klick on this desktop-icon, you will have two confirmations to accept.
The first confirmation: to make the desktop-starter executable.
After that you get asked to enter the root-password to execute the actual system-suspend command.

Now after you have come back out of suspend-mode let us know whether this worked for you.
If yes, I'll show you how to avoid to enter the root-password!
If not, we might tweak a bit further the option of that command ... :alien: :snail:

So give a try! ... and let us know ... good luck :crossfingers:
:puppy:
