[SOLVED] Conky and Orage are lost in time

#1 Post by k_sz »

Hello,

something is going wrong - see my local version of the Devil's Triangle :
Image

What i've tried (without rebooting the machine) :
  • stop and restart conky
  • remove and reinstall Orage's plugin (in xfce4-panel, i didn't reinstall the package itself)
  • sudo /etc/init.d/ntp restart
  • sudo ntpdate -u pool.ntp.org && sudo hwclock -w

    Code: Select all

     4 Mar 11:58:03 ntpdate[24927]: sendto(mirror3.rafal.ca): Operation not permitted
     4 Mar 11:58:03 ntpdate[24927]: sendto(37.44.185.42): Operation not permitted

     4 Mar 11:58:11 ntpdate[24927]: no server suitable for synchronization found
  • Using MX tool to set time didn't work either
Sadly, our local exorcist wasn't available. If a time wizard lurks around here, maybe she/he could help ?
***EDIT***
After resetting the timezone (using MX tool) Conky's output has been corrected, but not Orage's one.
***EDIT 2***
Orage timezone had to be reset manually, in the plugin's preferences.
[SOLVED] ! \o/
Still, the result of ntpdate -u pool.ntp.org being no server suitable for synchronization found is intriguing. Is my ISP blocking ntp packets ? :/
**EDIT 3***
Lol no. What a dead brain I am. I forgot to allow ntp protocol (port 123) after reinstalling my firewall (gufw) -_-"

Code: Select all

sudo ntpdate -u pool.ntp.org && sudo hwclock -w
[sudo] Mot de passe de ksz :
 4 Mar 13:29:37 ntpdate[26833]: step time server 147.135.187.131 offset 6.140419 sec
'works like a charm. Sorry for the spam.

not spam ~~ you've provided a valuable troubleshooting writeup, so thanks!

Hopefully a moderator will relocate the topic to tips-n-tricks (and edit/delete my post)
