Brightness slider not working

#1 Post by catalinux »

After an update last night the brightness slider from the battery icon is not working. I can only use the Fn keys to adjust the brightness of the screen - Here is a screenshot of the thing I am talking about (if it helps) - Is there any fix for this?

It's working correctly here on a clean install of RC1 on my testing machine. The setting survives a logout/login, but not a reboot (which makes pretty good sense to me).

I am on MX 16.1. I rebooted, shut down and powered up again with no results. The slider just won't adjust the brightness of the display no matter what. Besides, I see that it is slided all the way to the max whenever I boot my computer.

The "Display brightness" slider in the taskbar in MX-17 does nothing when I adjust it.
I am command line illiterate. I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.

Is that a laptop or a desktop?

Which highlights the need for posting system specifications when asking for help. MX Tools > Quick System info, highlight the output, copy and paste into your post enclosing the text in code by highlighting the text and clicking on code atop the post block. And in this case as Jerry indicated whether it is a desktop or laptop.

As far as I know the brightness slider only works on a laptop since it has an integrated screen.

By the way brightness controller is in the repos and can control a discrete (desktop) monitor.
