Tox as a Skype replacement?
Tox as a Skype replacement?
Skype 4.3 has been discontinued for Linux http://windowsreport.com/skype-for-linux/
Has anyone tried Tox https://www.linux.com/learn/tox-your-ne ... pplication?
It looks like a good replacement.
One of its benefits over Skype is it is far more secure.
Methinks uTox could be a useful open source addition to MX Linux, and it wouldn't add bloat.

Re: Tox as a Skype replacement?
Have you tested both uTox and qTox, and you prefer uTox?Methinks uTox
https://github.com/uTox/uTox
https://github.com/qTox/qTox
Asking because back last Fall, I tested both; each had separate merits / strong points. (I would have been unable to choose one over the other.)
Re: Tox as a Skype replacement?
Some times ago i read that Jitsi can be Linux replacement of Skype.
Code: Select all

Re: Tox as a Skype replacement?
Jitsi is in our repos and that's what we recommend in the Users Manual based on forum feedback about alternatives to Skype. I have intended for a long time to test it with a Skype user, and will get to it in the next couple of days.

Re: Tox as a Skype replacement?
Hrm.. figured I'd give it a go.. and it's (4.3.0.37) running like normal. Haven't made a call yet, but I am pretty sure that will work as well.

Re: Tox as a Skype replacement?
Oops, I seem to have created a bit of a kerfuffle.
Last week I was listening to a talk radio show and someone phoned in and heaped praise on Tox after mentioning that Skype was being discontinued on Linux. I simply thought I'd give Tox a mention as its uTox client is ultra lightweight.

I haven't tried it, I simply thought it might be a useful addition to the repositories.https://tox.chat/clients.html µTox is the lightweight client with minimal dependencies; it not only looks pretty, it runs fast!
Re: Tox as a Skype replacement?
No kerfuffle at all, people just trying to understand the situation. The 4.3 Skype had lots of problems for lots of people.
