Request: xdg-user-dirs-gtk not installed by default

#1

Post by Alad » Tue May 13, 2014 11:18 am

Hi,

While xdg-user-dirs is installed by default, xdg-user-dirs-gtk is not, meaning Documents/Music/etc are not displayed in Thunar or the Places plugin.

Regards,

Alad

Not sure I understand: without that I see the folders for Documents, Music, etc., and can drag them over to Places as a shortcut.

True, but you have to make shortcuts in "Places" by hand, xdg-user-dirs-gtk does it automatically. :)

Alad - sort of on topic - do you know how to set the default folder icons for xdg-user-dirs? As you have probably noticed, they are different.

For me personally, I prefer deciding for myself what I want to be over there. I placed this into the request category of the MX-14 bug/request/issue list, but I have trouble seeing it as a bug.

I installed xdg-user-dirs-gtk, but it makes no difference.

Fair enough, renamed accordingly.

Yes, it is run at login

Code: Select all

cat /usr/share/doc/xdg-user-dirs-gtk/README
xdg-user-dirs-gtk is a companion to xdg-user-dirs that integrates it into
the Gnome desktop and Gtk+ applications.

It gets run during login and does two things:
* Tracks changes of locale and prompts the user so the directories
  can be changed.
* Creates a default gtk bookmarks file if there is none, based
on a set of xdg user dirs.
-> /etc/xdg/autostart/user-dirs-update-gtk.desktop

The problem is tango-icon-theme doesn't have icons for Places.

Code: Select all

$ locate places | grep icons | grep -i Docu
/usr/share/icons/HighContrast/16x16/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/HighContrast/22x22/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/HighContrast/24x24/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/HighContrast/256x256/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/HighContrast/32x32/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/HighContrast/48x48/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/22x22/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/256x256/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/32x32/places/folder-documents.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/places/folder-documents.png
A theme similar to Tango that has the right icons is gnome-brave-icon-theme (from gnome-colors)
