[Done] Help with translation
Hello!
I'm having difficulties with translating "unattended-upgrades" in MX-Update. I don't get which upgrades does "unattended" refer to - the ones ready to be applied, the ones relating to packages on hold, or any other situation?

Re: Help with translation
unattended-upgrades means the upgrades will go through in the background, without user intervention.

Re: Help with translation
You guys do a great job (says a plain user) and have an excellent attitude. Happy to contribute what I can contribute.
I have one more question: in the line "Invalid %s value %s" (in live-initrd-init) what do the place holders stand for?

Re: Help with translation
its generic. could be lots of things.
go with invalid = wrong and value like a parameter

Re: Help with translation
I should have expressed better my problem with this line, sorry. The problem is the recurring issue of the different syntax between languages. When I look at the line I feel like the translation into pt should reverse the order of the words, but without knowing what will go in the place holders I can't know for sure. The problem is if my feeling is right then the 'sentence' will not make sense in pt and I'll have to find a way of maintaining the translation in the same word order as the original (since I can't move the place holders).Zeh wrote: ↑Thu Jul 26, 2018 2:33 pm

Re: Help with translation
in this case is a fairly technical statement, not even a sentence in english. more like a value pair list.
Code: Select all
# Invalid <parameter-name> value(s) <bad values>
[ "$invalid_scan" ] \
&& _fatal "$(printf 'Invalid %s values(s) %s' "$(pqh from=)" "$(pqh $invalid_scan)")" \
"$(printf 'Valid values are %s' "$(cq cd hd mmc usb all)")"

Re: Help with translation
I do see the issue you are facing. It's not always clear in what context the strings get presented to the user.Zeh wrote: ↑Thu Jul 26, 2018 2:39 pm ... But the context is important to get the right translated wording.
The only way I have solved it was to run the application within VirtualBox
installed MX or even just boot from an ISO and going through this part of the applications which needed translations
to be clarified. And I have run the app in both language to get a better context view.
Sometimes it even helps to see other translations within other language, but not always.
