Looking good.

I assume you did this with Compton. I tried with Compton config dialog. but get no results. M 17 alpha.

Nope that's stock xfce compositor

I did try the compton compositor...worked for me and hid the panel even more completely.

Well of course! I have done that so many times in the past. But thought there were also settings in the compositor,
