Greybird theme is not that gtk3 compatible?

#1 Post by asqwerth » Tue Mar 01, 2016 7:09 am

I know XFCE is supposed to be compatible with gtk2 and gtk3 themes now, and greybird is supposed to be an officially supported theme, whatever that means, but some gtk3 applications don't render well in greybird.

This is how my gnome-sudoku package looks.

It's not my pic (I'm not home) but the experiences set out in this Arch forum thread below mirror mine.

It's not just sudoku, I think. If I recall correctly, the archiving program MX15 uses also looks just a little off at the top where the control buttons are, as does gthumb.

Sudoku looks and works fine in Adwaita theme but I don't like it. So I installed Ambience Flat theme.

Anyway, I'm bringing this up in the light of Dedoimedo's review of MX15, where he said that the printer applet window was ugly (see the "Browse" button and text fields on the right side):

Could this also be because of greybird not being perfectly compatible with gtk3 or some other flaw within the theme?

If so, should we look for a replacement theme?

How does it (the printer applet) look with the Ambience Flat theme? Any better?

Yes.

And it looked exactly like Dedoimedo's screenshot in normal greybird as well as greybird thick-grip.

Many themes look fine. I think greybird looks fine.

I prefer the Greybird thick, but I see the same problem with Gnome Sudoku.
Removing Gnome Sudoku. :) Fltk-sudoku looks good. Big numbers.

Not just gnome-sudoku though.

The printer applet?

Doesn't bother me in the least. But that is just me. Obviously it is not pleasing to others. If the sentiment is for a change next go around, I have no issue with it.

Looks like grey bird (the original greybird) received an update in stretch that clears up these issues.

It might be worth it for pcallahan80 to see if he can import the changes into the MX thick and thin.

Looks like it's in murrine-themes.

But our modified version is in mx-greybird-themes, and I'm not sure what we changed. Just the .png files? The css files? We should also check if the bluebird themes need fixing.
