USB - C is going to replace not only regular USB but HDMI as well.
Aside from the physical adapters for USB, how will MX (and others) deal with those of us who do not have USB-C equipment?
Will MX support normal USB for the next decade?
Even TV sets are supposed to migrate to USB-C.

New hardware specs?
Mx 19.2 XFCE, dual boot with XP Media Center Edition 2005, core i5, 8gb ram, WD 500GB NvMe drive (4 lanes) + other storage drives.
Re: New hardware specs?
It's simple. The corporate world will demand backward compatibility and linux will ride on that demand's coattails.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
Aspire V5-571; CPU Intel I3; 500 GB SSD; Intel 2nd Gen Graphics; 8 GB Ram
Aspire XC-866; i3-9100; UHD 630; 8 GB ram; 1TB HDD
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Support for older USB is in the kernel, and isn't going away for a long, long, long time.
Re: New hardware specs?
It still supports floppy drives. When was the last time you bought a new computer that came with one of those?
