Over Christmas have been puting together my new rig as per sig, loaded with MX17 / 18 courtsy of Adrian.
Big thanks to all devs.
Now to learn this plasma 5 thingy. Xmas Gift
Re: Xmas Gift
Wowza! Are you going to learn to package with all those horses pulling away? (Or is this something you already do?)

Re: Xmas Gift
Oh, somebody using my KDE respin, let me know how it works. I have to admit that I don't use it myself, maybe it would probably be a bit more polished...
Re: Xmas Gift
No Jerry I'm just an old petrol head from way back when horsepower was king. I can now boast to my friends that mines bigger than theirs.
Adrian, your respin is looking good. Because my hardware is so new I needed to install the 4.19 kernel. Bit scary getting temp readings in 90C range with the 4.15 kernel. A bit of google foo gave the solution to upgrade. I have now fully upgraded with all the latest releases & alls well.

Wow! I'm in hardware envy. Sounds like something to aspire to for next rig. I haven't tried AMD CPU yet. From what I've read it may be at the top of list over Intel ones. My desktop has 8 core. I cant phathom 16.
Re: Xmas Gift
Nice build. I have built an AMD desktop computer but because ASUS lied I had to order a hardware RAID card for mine and wait till it comes in so I can get mine up and running. Looks like you went to town on the CPU and video card. I just hope you never have to call ASUS for anything because you will be talking only to idiots. Good luck with your new computer. Once mine is up and running I will post the info on my latest creation.
I am command line illiterate. I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.
Re: Xmas Gift
Good luck with feedback. I had over 70 downloads of my MXStudio unofficial respin last I looked. Zero comments received.
I don't use it myself either, it was just a proof of concept. I realised I could never make it better than AVLinux which is what I use regularly for audio production.
Although I'm sure chippy52 will get back to you now that he's a regular user.
Re: Xmas Gift
Eight cores with SMT. Two threads per core from that readout=16. But Intel's "hyperthreading" SMT has been blamed for some Spectre data leakage flaws, enough to have BSD disable it. I don't know if AMD's is also vulnerable, but researchers and hackers are hard at work trying to find leaks for both AMD and Intel processors.galaxysurfer wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 8:53 pm Wow! Mmike in Santa Rosa also has a powerful HP workstation with a Xeon Intel processor with at least 8 cores, hyperthreading, and 32 GB that he uses for package builds.
Re: Xmas Gift
After a week of real world use I thought a comment was due.
My system has 2 GPT formatted drives. System installed on the nvme ssd, with sata 3 data drive. I run a separate Syslinux boot partition on the data drive.
The installation was quick & without issues. Used the MX tool Nvidia installer for driver installation with no problems. ( later updated with the repo driver )
Have fully updated & installed the software I use. Got my printer up & running ( Epson WF 7620 ) using driver from openprinting. I use suspend which works well.
The one oddity I have come across in system settings, workspace theme, splash screen is the radio buttons to get new splash screens are missing. The windows for the other themes are in tack.
All in all a very polished system.
Once again a big thanks to all devs & of cause Adrian for the KDE respin.
