I am curious, why does DistroWatch say that release model of 16.1 is Fixed, and 17.1 and 18-rc1 are Semi-Rolling.

Probably b/c 16 was based on Wheezy, whose development is over, while 17x and 18 are based on Stretch which is still being upgraded.

Distrowatch making that distinction, in my opinion:

since we are still rolling new packages into the Jessie-based MX 15/16 repo.

Yeah but they're just looking at Debian, I bet. Anyway, it's just a guess

"Open-release" -- constantly open to any new/important/requested/etc. updates/upgrades that are do-able. But who am I in all this?

@stevo.... how about calling it a forever release or maybe 'catch & release' (I guess that's a fishing thing.) hmmm. :turtle:

Is it then true MX is a "midweight and semi-rolling", described in the new website. Great!!!

PS. The website is beautiful, and well organised.

Click on the word semi-rolling to see how we use it in the linked text.

This website description is based on Distrowatch's description.

My personal view (in the minority of the Dev Team) is that it does not describe MX. Hopefully I'm not hit with a gag order against speaking on this issue again.... :p

What then does "semi" mean in DW's eyes? 2 possibilities:
1) Core packages don't roll, and the rest can be updated (ie, roll) part of the way through backporting, up to a point where it finally hits a brick wall and can't anymore.
2) MX Releases based on the same Debian Base can be "rolled" from the older to the newer release, while those releases based on different Debian Bases can't. This second definition is what MX is using on the MX website.

So I would advise not getting your hopes up for the moment as regards any easy move from MX18 to MX-buster.
