@ aledie. Thanks for that, it probably explains why I was told that Melbourne would be the fastest for me - it would be the Sydney mirror which is
close to the undersea cable terminal from here in NZ. Still a bit puzzling as the NZ mirror is only a few kilometres away from my home.

The Sydney mirror will give good coverage of Aussie's east coast which has a large part of that country's total population.

@Gordon Cooper: I did some inquiries to NZ too, to get an alternative to the current one. I have a active lead in Hamilton/Wellington. But they are gauging how important is MX in NZ, and make final decision after NY.
It may help if you send them an email as NZ long-timer with MX and add few words about MX community waiting for their mirror. To avoid me getting an answer few weeks later that they know not a single NZ guy using MX this don't opt to host us. If you send me your email address per pm I will fwd you their last email.

Hi,
Running MX-18 on a Lenovo T430s, 12GB Ram, 512GB SSD, Linux 4.15.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.15.4-1~mx17+1 (2018-02-23) x86_64 GNU/Linux.
Have been running MX Linus for a while now and I must say it's rock solid and with all the tools you need to get the job done.
Since updating / upgrading to MX-18 I have noted there is a mirror in Melbourne which is great but there is a 404 error which has been going on for a few weeks now.
Is it dead or is there an issue with this mirror only.
Thanks,
Alex

Apologies I should have read the complete post first.
I do choose the Launceston mirror in the repo manager but for some reason always defaults to the Melbourne mirror.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

@ Alex. The NZ mirror has had intermittent 404's for a couple of years now, but they almost always come right the next day.
It may be that Melbourne is having the same problem. Geography ?

@Gordon Cooper, Thanks for getting back to me. I live in Sydney so Geographic location shouldn't be an issue.
I will continue to try and see what happens, thanks anyway.
Happy New Year to all MX and AntiX users.

@645dood: Alex, Melbourne mirror AusNet (actually it has 2 nodes Mel and Sydney, that's the fastest for you) was 14 days down for maintenance - they moved/ rerouted. It s ok now since few days ago. Be patient with newly added mirrors, we expand in Australia for sure!!!

We will add the second mirror in Syd to repos shortly (check maybe there already (DataMossa.io former Solnet.io)

Much luck!
