This last batch of updates really mucked up my fonts.
It appears that fontconfig-config and fontconfig were updated to 2.13,
but libfontconfig and libfontconfig-dev were still at 2.11.
I updated libfontconfig* via synaptic and all is fine again.
Last update: fontconfig 2.13, libfontconfig 2.11

Booting to my alternate partition, the upgrade notice below lists fontconfig and fontconfig-config,
but no libfontconfig.

Re: Last update: fontconfig 2.13, libfontconfig 2.11
bil, you're not the only one who noticed font changes after this upgrade.
My system has libfontconfig1 rather than libfontconfig (not sure about the difference). All were upgraded to 1:2.13-05~mx17+1
Fonts have changed subtly. All are sharp and clear, which is the most important thing. But quite a jarring morning!
Window Manager - Style - Title Font - Noto Sans 12
Appearance - Fonts - Noto Sans 12
Sublime Text editor using DejaVu Sans Mono 12

Can you give us the output of "inxi -r" so we can see if your sources are OK?

Re: Last update: fontconfig 2.13, libfontconfig 2.11
Well, I'm stumped! But at least you were able to fix it.
Re: Last update: fontconfig 2.13, libfontconfig 2.11
No problem.
If I had noticed libfontconfig1 within the held back portion, I could have just done the dist-upgrade earlier.
I get held back stuff on occasion (not just linux kernels). I don't know if that's common or not.
I just assumed it was some upgrade process mx linux was doing.

Re: Last update: fontconfig 2.13, libfontconfig 2.11
Are the iso.mxrepo.com repositories updating OK now for you with "sudo apt update"? They were broken a few days ago, so I switched to https://mirrors.xtom.com/mx-packages/mx/repo/, but probably will go with la.mxrepo.com.

No problems for me, there is no Firefox on this machine - that may be irrelevant?
