MX-18 beta 1 feedback

#1 Post by dolphin_oracle »

Place feedback from the MX-18 beta 1 testing iso here.

If posting hardware issues, please post the output of the terminal command "inxi -F" or use our "Quick-system-info" from the menu, at a minimum.

If posting nvidia-installer issues, please post the contents of /var/log/ddm.log.

If posting remaster issues, please include the contents of /var/log/live/live-remaster.log

If posting issues with MX-PackeageInstaller "Popular Apps", please post contents of /var/log/mxpi.log or /var/log/mxpi.log.old (whichever contains the log of your issue).

Hi.

The only real "problem" I had with MX 17 was installing the nvidea driver. My MX box is my work pc, so if I test it, it's via live USB... Is there a way of installing the driver on it? with/without activating persistency?

P.

no, not really. they will install, but there seems to be issues with getting them working on a live system.

and please check the "known issues" on the beta 1 - nvidia driver install from the main repos may not install yet. those from debian-backports should, and we will have new ones in the main repo before final release.

Installed on ssd, no encryption, full disk. Configured to my preferences in about 10 minutes including adding Google Chrome and GC extensions. Looking good.

I installed the beta MX-18 on the installation of MX-17.1 keeping only the /home, it took 11 minutes and it works fine.
I did not like the Plymouth they chose and I have a doubt about the last item in the choice of partitions. I do not know what to place if MX is the only system I use.
It's something new for me, the "boot".

You can choose a different Plymouth splash screen with MX Boot Options. As I am sure you can appreciate tastes vary and all cannot be pleased. That is why an option is provided.

Currently, Package Installer>Popular Applications tab does not show currently installed kernel.

(I understand why, but users used to seeing it there might not.)

Tried installing Nvidia using the MX setup option.

Haven't done anything else yet, not even reloaded synaptic or anything. Only disabled the splash screen and set things to very detailed.
