Don't run MX 17 as root user. Do login as normal user. MX is not prepared for a running GUI as root.
root user is meant for system maintenance only.

What about starting with core- or base- install, so you have a bit more than the bare minimum as with the netinstall.
At least it would avoid you to learn how to mount or how to get inxi installed.
