Soundblaster not working on Steam

#1 Post by jnsantos »

Hi all,

First post here, loving the MX experience so far, have it in both my machines, including the one I use to work.

PROBLEM:
I have an old Soundblaster and 5.1 speakers (SB Live!/Audigy/X-Fi Series) and it works flawlessly... except on steam. I've been reading a lot of posts, solved and unsolved but nothing so far seems to work on my end! I couldn't install any 32bits alsa-libs...

SYSTEM:
The result of running

Code: Select all

sudo lshw -C multimedia
is:
*-multimedia
description: Audio device
product: GF119 HDMI Audio Controller
vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
physical id: 0.1
bus info: pci@0000:01:00.1
version: a1
width: 32 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list
configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=0
resources: irq:17 memory:f7080000-f7083fff

*-multimedia
description: Audio device
product: 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller
vendor: Intel Corporation
physical id: 1b
bus info: pci@0000:00:1b.0
version: 04
width: 64 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list
configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=0
resources: irq:28 memory:f7110000-f7113fff

*-multimedia
description: Multimedia audio controller
product: CA0106/CA0111 [SB Live!/Audigy/X-Fi Series]
vendor: Creative Labs
physical id: 2
bus info: pci@0000:04:02.0
version: 00[/code]
width: 32 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list
configuration: driver=snd_ca0106 latency=32 maxlatency=20 mingnt=2
resources: irq:18 ioport:c000(size=32)
And I'm running
Linux nuno 4.13.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.13.13-2mx17 (2017-12-30) x86_64 GNU/Linux
Right now my pragmatic solution would be to take the card out and lose the 5.1 ability... which is a shame because on youtube, watching movies or anything else (except steam) it works rather well!

Any help would be great!
Sorry for any noob mistake or lack I inadvertently may have done!
