with MX, I never go distro hopping

I was just thinking: one of the most obvious ways to measure one's distro satisfaction is how often one goes distro hopping, if ever. I haven't looked around since I switched from antiX to MX in late 2014. I thought about exploring other distros recently, just because I felt distro-restless, but ultimately I said either "what would be the point?" or "nah, too much effort."

Also, admittedly, the main reason I wouldn't change distros is because I'd almost certainly have to leave the Debian distro family, and I don't want to. I like apt and its Synaptic front-end too much. Most Debian variants I see at Distrowatch are either niche variants or Ubuntu-based, and I avoid Ubuntu on principle. In short, I'm deeply satisfied with the debian distro family as well as MX.

The only distro hopping that I did was when mepis became MX. It wasn't much of a hop really, more of a cough, that quickly was cured when I ran back.

My last major distro hopping attempt was seven- to seven-and-a-half years ago and was provoked by the changes in KDE and, ultimately, the inadequacy of my attempts to avoid KDE 4 without quitting MEPIS (which was not defunct yet). I had been using KDE Trinity with Mepis for a while, but when it became obvious to me that Trinity was somewhat buggy, I threw up my hands and decided to find another distro. My hopping just happened to find antiX before I happened onto any other distros, and I kept antiX for a few years even though it didn't resemble MEPIS (as explained in viewtopic.php?f=40&t=43326). Then you designers created MX, and that was I had been looking for in the first place.

All that could have been avoided had I known about XFCE. I evidently didn't.

Likewise. I hopped after running mepis, then came back to the MX fold and have stayed there. Also use a very standard MX, no trials of extra applications.
The only problems I have had is getting MX to work with some Brother printers.

I came to Mepis at 3.3 after Mandrake bricked my LG CD/DVD R/W, until the advent of Ubuntu base in 2006.
Then Kanotix, sidux, deb testing, Mint, antiX, Mepis, Peppermint, Ubuntu, OpenSuSE, Crunchbang,
Puppy, Arch, Fedora, SolydX, Solex, Refracta, Saline, Manjaro, Crunchbang...
and then I found MX-14, 02-Apr-2014.

Now I only look when bored because MX is so stable, unless I break it.
I hop to antiX base w/ SpaceFM & IceWM on my netbooks. RAM: ca. 65M / 994M
IceWM still makes me smile every time it boots --so quickly.

I went "distro-hopping" when I was trying to get away from Windows. Came across SimplyMEPIS and it worked. Little niggles along the way, but it's been over 10 years now, and I'm still here. Tried this and that over the years, but Mepis/MX has been my only OS. Kind of a tribute to how stable and satisfying it is. 'Course, the community might play a "small" part in it...
