MX tools
Re: MX tools
They should be able to be used, unless they depend on packages or special configuration that only MX or antiX has. Adrian would know for sure, but the snapshot app might need some special sauce that we add, for example. Some of the themes in package-installer have been packaged for MX only. Other MX apps would be more generic.
Re: MX tools
Well, it would have to be Debian-based just to install the debs.
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB

Re: MX tools
and where do I download the deb?
Re: MX tools
I would not recommend, many depend on specific antiX/MX configurations and files. And not all apps are the same not all are written by the same developer, so I cannot generalize, if I were to generalize I would say "Don't try, they are coded for other distros and are not tested so they can potentially break things " All the tools are open sourced so they can be adapted to any distro, some easier than others.
I used mx- in front for a reason, to make it clear they are built for MX and not designed or tested on other distros.
If you ask which specific tool are you interested in I can give you a more detailed answer.

antiX with runit - lean and mean.

Re: MX tools
Many of the Qt MX Tools from MX 17 won't even install onto Ubuntu 16.04, because they demand Qt 5 >= 5.7, and 16.04 has 5.5. They'd have to be recompiled on 16.04, which is pretty simple with the "apt-get source <package>", etc method.
Re: MX tools
No. Don't do it. Even if you could technically install them. As a writer of many of them I will guarantee they will mess up your system. They are meant for MX, tested on MX. MX Package Installer installs for example from Debian sources not from Ubuntu, from MX test repo that is compatible with MX not with Ubuntu and so on. There are some apps that are more general and could run but not with this crapshoot approach.napsix65 wrote:MX Tools, all. Xubuntu 16.04
Official answer, don't do it. If you do it you get to keep both broken parts.
