root_persistence, semi-automatic mode

Persistence is working as expected but, across several reboots, no "Custom blabblah datetime" menu entry is presented on the boot screen.
The F8 Save has preserved the previously-selected options, but manual removal of "quiet" from the boot line options box is required during each boot (because MenuItem 1 is the only suitable choice).

Thanks...That one is inherited from antiX. removal of default boot options on the legacy side appear to be non-savable at the moment. I think it still remembers additional ones.

Noted for future antiX development.

Thank you. I have already solved the fault I had with the "ImpPnt PetSis" key in the following way:
I copied these two files from my other machine and replaced them with the existing ones.

1.- ~/.config/Thunar/uca.xml
2.- ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts.xml
No todos ignoramos las mismas cosas.

Update - kmahjongg

Opened synaptic, added test repo, did not upgrade anything, but selected kmahjongg. It installed OK.

MX-17.1-RC1_x64 missing kernel file?

#74 Post by dufresnep »

Edit1: I have rewritten the iso file on the USB key with etcher.io (an electron app running on Linux,Windows and Mac):
https://etcher.io/ and it works fine that way.
End Edit1

Edit2: This is a BIOS computer, NOT a UEFI. End Edit2

Edit3v2: Rufus 2.18 (latest), I believe rufus change the boot to Syslinux (I have checked syslinux.cfg file before etcher.io)...
I believe original file is GRUB(2)... when reading in Windows, I was only seeing grub directory, not syslinux after etcher.io write.
End Edit3v2

I used Rufus to 'burn' the MX-17.1-RC1_x64.iso file on a 4GB usb key.
It asked permission to download 2 files from Internet before writing it, but it had seems to worked.
I have chosen Fat32.

But when I booted, it said me that the file KERNEL /antiX/vmlinuz
was missing and it is indeed missing:

tried install libkf5kdegames7
Get: Depends: libkf5declarative5

Tried down about 5 levels of DEPENDS - something missing?

I just installed it successfully on a Live 64-bit session without the test repo. Did you enable or install some KDE app from the test repo first? Or possibly you had not updated the apt database yet, and you did that when you added the test repo in your other post.

I am unable to install the RC1. The following is what I tried to do. I had none of these difficulties with MX16 or Mx17.
I have downloaded it and used Unetbootin to burn it to a USB drive. Unsuccessful. (I did verify the MD5 each time)
Redownloaded & reburned. Still unsuccessful.
Repeated the download & burn to different USB drive with same results.
I have always used Unetbootin, and have used both of these drives to install MX previously.
The first problem I encountered was when attempting to use GParted from the first USB drive. Locked the computer up tight.
Next, I booted into MX17 & created a partition for installation.
Rebooted into the USB drive, & started the install process again. As soon as it began formatting the partition I had created, it locked up - sort of - at 3% and stayed there for several minutes before I did anything else. The mouse still moved the cursor. Firefox worked. The formatting would not proceed beyond 3%, and the machine would not shut down or reboot.
I had to use the reset button to restart the machine. I tried several times to install with the same results.
My machine has not changed since the Mx17 install.
I currently have Mepis11, MX16, MX17, Windows7, & Windows10 installed & operational

I7-930
Asus P6X58D
18G ram
Nvidia Graphics
Samsung SSD
3 300G WD Raptor Drives (Attempted RC1 install on one of these)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

unetbootin (especially its older versions, which use an older version of extlinux/syslinux) is known to fail.
Rufus [...] It asked permission to download 2 files from Internet before writing it, but it had seems to worked.
Upon first use, or first time asked to perform isohybrid mode, yes, Rufus asking to dl 2 files is the expected behavior (docs on the akelo.ie site even mention this). IIRC, the download ensures its copies of extlinux|syslinux are up to date.
rufus change the boot to Syslinux (I have checked syslinux.cfg file before etcher.io)...I believe original file is GRUB(2)
mix-n-match GRUB and syslinux is a wildcard variable I've not explored.
That wildcard might explain the sporadic prior reports of failure, reported by folks whose posts have mentioned "...and etcher" or "...and MultibootUSB"
