I have an intel-microcode update available, but I've seen some headlines that indicate that Intel's updates are causing problems. Is this a safe update?

I had a intel-microcode update today on my MX-16 install, but from what I see in the version name it looks like it's actually rolling back to an earlier version.

And it looks like we didn't roll back quite far enough. The first set of meltdown mitigation patches appeared in the 20171215 microcode. This first set are unlikely to cause the problems the next set did, but to be safe we'll roll back to the set just before this - 20171117

Should I put off upgrading for now? I'm still on MX-16.
