About your question. ..actually no. The user account inherits it's default settings from those stored in /etc/skel. The root account is totally separate.

If a new user is created on an installed system then it will inherit the original settings from the root account, right?

It's created using the templates in /etc/skel it has nothing to do with the root account. You could customize your account and then copy the relevant things to /etc/skel (just make sure you don't copy any private or user-specific info).

I also use this thread to give my testimony and thank all the developers for their work.

I recently discovered MX distribution and was really pleased by the balance user friendliness / performance and hardware requirements. The user friendly environment was important as I'm not a developer, and more critically as I intended to implement MX on my wife's old notebook. Wife for whom a computer is just a tool that must work and do the job. The experience has been globally successful and she's been using MX for a few weeks now without complaining :-)

I particularly appreciated the fast and clean install, the possibility to set the OPENVPN client thrrough the network manager, the immediate connection to our local cups server local printer without having to spend time opening firewall ports, and more globally the possibility to customize the whole working environment through the interface.

On the minus side, I've had (and still been having) 2 non critical bugs about which I will post in other threads. I also spent some time finding out that the Thunar file manager had a dropbox integration package waiting in the repository. I almost dropped the distribution before finding it as it is a feature on which my wife relies very heavily for her work. Would be nice to have that package installed automatically along with the dropbox package. The last point regards XFCE: The fact that application launchers coexists on the panel with open application "handles" resulted in my wife opening multiple instances of the same application instead of selecting the opened one, leading quickly to memory problems. So I removed the launchers and she now has to open the start menu to launch a new application. I know it may sound stupid to specialists, but it's just what happened :-) Would be nice to have the opened application handles merged with the launcher.

So in conclusion congratulation and thank you once again.

Nice review. You might consider creating a second panel as a launcher. My system panel is on the bottom, and I have a disappearing launcher for my most-used progs over on the left. This works out very well, with probably a minimum of resources and no need for a separate program. Occasionally there's a mouse conflict between showing the panel and crossing over to the previous desktop, but the delay/sensitivity settings can be finessed fairly well.

I'm a Dropbox user, never used Thunar addon, I just look for it and installed it to test it "thunar-dropbox-plugin" if anybody is looking.

I think there are a number of issues here, not everybody needs/wants the plugin even if they use Dropbox and not everybody uses Thunar. Also the package "Dropbox" is packaged by Dropbox I think, we don't modify that, so we'd need to repackage that every time Dropbox release a new version, or to have a different metapackage, let's call it "Dropbox-meta" but then you'll have the same issue of not knowing that there's such a package that pulls all the packages you need. We could add though in MX Package Installer a "Dropbox Thunar Addin" entry under "Dropbox" so people would know it's available.

Thanks for the suggestion, the change should come by soon in MX Package Installer (one of the benefits of using a nimble distro like MX )
