You cannot replace it it's a different ISO with different name and md5 sum. Don't see a solution here, people need to choose to download the snapshot -- I mean the best thing probably would be to update a previous ISO using zsync.

I had this zsync-ing from the September snapshot, it downloaded about 188 MB versus about 1.3 GB for the full iso.
reading seed file MX-17.1_September_x64.iso: ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Read MX-17.1_September_x64.iso. Thanks again Adrian. That is what I decided after reconsidering the first thought. There are still quite a few using Torrents to download MX-17.1 and some of those new folk may not be aware that they are getting a yet to be updated version. AntiX Torrents OK at present with 17.2 released only recently.

I was getting ready to replace MX-15 and install MX-17 when I saw this post. I'm currently booted up into Live MX-17.1_x64 Horizon March 14, 2018. Confused .. 17.1, 17.2, Final, snapshot , etc. So I guess I need latest October snapshot which I guess is this one?

Yes. Nothing confusing. It's what the MX17.1 original release would be if someone installed it and then faithfully applied all updates, and then snapshotted it in October. It will save you having to apply all the March to October updates after you've installed it on your machine.

And if some of the updates were bugfixes, you would get it by default in the snapshot.

I mean ultimately people who receive 17.1 and do all the updates should get something that is like the monthly snapshot, I only hope they do the installer update before they install -- maybe we should think about a mechanism to prompt users to update the installer, the rest of the stuff can be very well updated at later time. I guess if we have an important update to the installer we'd need to do a new official dot release. Monthly snapshots are mostly a matter of convenience they don't really modify the official release they just provide the latest updates from the pool.

@Adrian, booting in UEFI mode your October snapshot you get the grub-menu
with this:
"Welcome to MX-17-beta (Horizon)!"
which might be look a bit outdated.
We need an update of our mx-iso-template as the grub-menu title is is a fixed string
within: iso-template.tar.gz -> iso-template/boot/grub/theme/theme.txt
and shall probably something like this
"Welcome to MX-17.1 (Horizon)!"
:puppy:
BTW: For those who don't like shortened URL's,like me :frown:,
here is the long URL above: https://sourceforge.net/projects/mx-lin ... Snapshots/
