Would it be possible to have grub-customizer be pointed at the disk drive that controls the boot?
Just a thought.
Most of what it does is cosmetic. And can be done manually, if I can find my notes. :)
Using these GUIs causes soft RAM rot.

I really don't know I don't use GRUB customizer, I think after it shows the error that it cannot find the "overlay" you can select "Environment settings" and select the desired partition, you might need to specify where the grub.cfg and the like go (maybe mount that partition first)

I'll give it a try when it finishes remastering.
As I remember though, it closed after putting away the error dialog.

The more I think about it, I agree with you, it is really not necessary on Workbench.
Grub-customizer is aimed at configuring grub on an installed system.
No grub on WB, no need for it.

Yeah, it seems like it's possible to use but you need to jump through some hoops, I think it's OK if I don't include, if somebody is willing to jump through the hoops they can do the extra step of "apt-get install grub-customizer"

More room for the good stuff you guys have been talking about.

I hadn't heard of Photorec, only used Testdisk. Both great tools.

So, I've downloaded all the appropriate Workbench items into a 17.1 installation, using the listing from github. Do I have to recreate the "Workbench Tools Launcher" somewhere in my menus, or is it available already? And yes, you can freely assume that this is going to be a "learning experience" for me. I am an infrequent modifier (broken too many things too often, and don't enjoy reloading things all over again all that much). But, if I have to load Workbench from USB on one box and recreate it here I can do that.

Thanks,

What do you try to do? Depending on that I can recommend a procedure. Don't go blindly and install stuff from github, some things are not for regular installations.
Frankly the easiest way is to download the MX-Workbench ISO and modify that, if you just want the tools that I usually install you can look here: https://github.com/AdrianTM/workbench-d ... install.sh
But again, I don't recommend installing stuff blindly, the "Workbench Defaults" will mess up your installation, that's why I have that set up in my github repo not in the MX Linux one (I will add a disclaimer in README).

OOPS! Thanks Adrian. As far as I can tell I didn't mess anything up too badly. At least not so far.

What I was trying to do was to have a "spare" computer with Workbench along with the regular/current MX available at turn-on. I also have the latest Workbench on USB, should that be needed to help someone. I just like the convenience of having the tools installed, versus booting the USB every time I get curious about what a particular tool does on the Aspire One. I'm still in the exploring MX/Linux phase (probably for the rest of my computer-using life), but don't have 24/7 to "play".

After running the github script/install I was wondering about the Workbench Tools Launcher so I can run the tools more easily, that's what I was after. If I didn't explain something clearly enough, just let me know.

Thanks for all you do for all the users,

Yeah, the launcher is the "custom-toolbox" https://github.com/MX-Linux/custom-toolbox
And the settings are the ones in https://github.com/AdrianTM/workbench-d ... tools.list you need to save this file in /etc/custom-toolbox/ and also use a .desktop file to launch it https://github.com/AdrianTM/workbench-d ... ls.desktop

Notice that I call custom-toolbox like this "custom-toolbox /etc/custom-toolbox/workbench-tools.list" so it loads that particular list you could dump the content in the default .list which is /etc/custom-toolbox/custom-toolbox.conf so you could call "custom-toolbox" directly.

Many, many thanks Adrian.
I will download and get this working the next chance I get.

Kind regards,
