Jerry,

I have been trying to keep track, but maybe I missed it.

If we have a RC1 installation, fully updated, do we need a fresh install?
Or will updating get us to final?

Thanks

You can dist-upgrade to Final from RC1, either in a terminal or with Apt-Notifier (if in a hurry, right-click and "Check for updates").

Just did a fresh install, all is running fine so far. :number1:

The only thing that pops up (and that used to be the case in MX15 as well) at times is a pulseaudio thing in syslog:

Code: Select all

Dec 13 19:31:30 eadwine-mx16 pulseaudio[2918]: [pulseaudio] shm.c: shm_open() failed: No such file or directory
Dec 13 19:31:30 eadwine-mx16 pulseaudio[2918]: [pulseaudio] shm.c: shm_open() failed: No such file or directory
Dec 13 19:41:28 eadwine-mx16 pulseaudio[2918]: [pulseaudio] shm.c: shm_open() failed: No such file or directory
Dec 13 19:41:28 eadwine-mx16 pulseaudio[2918]: [pulseaudio] shm.c: shm_open() failed: No such file or directory
I cannot predict when it happens or why, once I manage to replicate it I will report back, but it does not hinder the sound on my system any, so not a bother to me.

If it needs reporting in the other thread, let me know.

Code: Select all

First time I tried to install dropbox from package installer amongst a number of other packages, it threw up an error but I can't find any info in the logs about the error, but when I tried again, it installed without fuss.

I seem to recall we spent some time on a default set of power management settings for MX15, but there is nothing in MX16. Is this intentional? Just asking because Dedoimedos report on MX15 made a big deal about battery life.

Installed the RC1 on my laptop a few days ago. I have dist-upgrade active and there are no updates available anymore.
But inxi -F tells me that there is still the RC1 on my machine.
Is this normal?

dropbox installs ok here. there is a brief message about dropbox already being installed...I'm afraid that is present because we actually install dropbox manually, then tell the system to install again, so that it will show up as installed in the mxpi listings afterward. Its a design flaw we picked up emulating the original metapackage-installer, and we are planning to do some relatively major redesigns to mxpi. but that will be down the road...

the power manager settings in mx16 are identical to mx15. the only change from the defaults was what happens when you close the lid. Who really knows why ded. got more battery life. That surprised me. I know the buntu's, mint included, run more processes at boot that we do.

The only problem I have was with my JBL Flip 2 bluetooth speaker connecting, it was recognized but would not connect. I installed pulse audio module, sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth, then loaded it, sudo pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover. Shutdown and restart.
I did have to use the Debian repositories to get keepassx to work, the two that were available with Synaptic would not work with the data base I had.
Would probably use this if the theme was not always dark, (depressing) other than that everything worked right out of the box.
Congrats to a great distro
