I am starting to put together a Twitter page in the Wiki to orient our users to what it is and how we use it. I noticed that it is possible to set up a protected Twitter account, and it may be something we want to look at in the future.

From what I understand the protected Twitter account makes the account private and only people who follow you can see your tweets, your tweets also don't show up in search engines, not sure what advantage would bring us, we want everybody to see our tweets and we want search engines to find our posts.

OK, hadn't pursued it yet.

My Wiki first draft: http://www.mepiscommunity.org/wiki/other/twitter

Changed the link in the Board Announcements to point to that. What else do we need in there for our users?

Retweeted tonight an announcement of a fork of MX-15:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7K9Nv ... YxSHM/view

An interesting development IMO.

Thanks for pointing that out, I offered to help in case he wants to customize his snapshot. I actually find twitter great for this kind of interaction, one more example why is good to use different tools to communicate with the community.

Yeah, I had that thought too at first, then realized that it is MX Silver that is being numbered, not MX.

Hi,
I am a new, and happy, user of MX-15.
I noticed that there is a RSS link on the community home page, which I added to my RSS program. However, apart from one post in 2014 - zip-nothing-nada.
I appreciate that Twitter is the 'in' thing nowadays, but why ignore a perfectly good way of making information accessible ?
How about it, uh? Not everybody either wants, needs, or is willing to use Twitter.

Just my 2c,
Phil

If you look from another angle this is one of the best arguments for using Twitter, it makes it so much easier to post stuff, instead of involving the web developer that has limited time and instead of crafting well worded posts that have to look good in a webpage (and are supposed to be "official") we can simply post much quicker short messages on Twitter and can retweet various stuff that works well in the Twitter culture, but it won't necessarily have room on a front page of the community.

I do agree we need to take care of the other means of communication, and I'm not sure why the RSS feed was not updated since 2014, but they do serve slightly different uses. Plus you can connect more personally on Twitter, I added my account @adrian_mxlinux and you can communicate with me there for example (for people who don't want to register to this forum -- that's also a group of people), but if there was an "official" post, you'd probably just have a "send feedback" link and you'd not have any clue what would happen with your feedback... like I said different means of communication have slightly different uses and benefits (and drawbacks).

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your comment!
