I installed LXDE through the MX package install utility.
I notice that when I log in using LXDE, the MX update utility does not work properly. There may also be other MX utilities that do not function as intended.
Is there a solution to this?
Thanks!
Len

Installing a different Desktop Environment
Re: Installing a different Desktop Environment
I hope you are aware that LXDE is no longer in development (final release was end of 2016).
--- see https://www.wikiwand.com/en/LXDE
Development is now focused on LXQt (it's replacement which is released).

Here still runs lxde in sid

Re: Installing a different Desktop Environment
What manyroads posted is essentially correct. You can confirm this first-hand, by visiting https://git.lxde.org/gitweb/ ~~ scroll the page and note the date of most recent commit for each of the various non-Qt components.
If you choose to use LXDE, you can check for bugs already reported by fellow users, e.g.
https://github.com/lxde/lxterminal/issues
https://sourceforge.net/p/lxde/bugs/
Sporadic bugfixes to indivividual components might, or might not, be incorporated downstream within for-ubuntu or for-debian packages, but we should not expect to hear announcements of any future bugfix releases for the overall suite.

Re: Installing a different Desktop Environment
I recently wanted to install a lamp server and thought I would use tasksel to set one up.
Anyway, there was no lamp server option. But there was several Desktop environments.

Yes, I am aware. I despise LXQT. I'm hoping LXDE is supported awhile longer.manyroads wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2019 9:28 am I hope you are aware that LXDE is no longer in development (final release was end of 2016).

But if it is available as an optional desktop install in MX Linux, it should function as intended with all MX Tools, etc working properly.
If not, remove it from the options.
Re: Installing a different Desktop Environment
@lend27,
MX officially supports the Xfce desktop.
All other desktops and window managers are for the convenience of the user. If you choose to use some other desktop or window manager, be aware that the bugs you uncover might be fixable,
if you provide some debug information.
A good start is the MX Quick Info pasted between </> tags. :) For legibility. You may also need to provide some alfa testing.

Re: Installing a different Desktop Environment
MX Package Installer will set up a LAMP server for you. Not a desktop, so this isn't really the thread for it, though.
Re: Installing a different Desktop Environment
Nice, I will do that, thanx
