I applied a couple of tweaks to FF as mentioned at https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/firefox.html, one of them being disabling pocket. Another less mentioned tweak I made was to "Prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser" in privacy and security. It's not something I use and can cause problems https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ac ... y-services.
One of the add-ons I had on Firefox was Canvas Defender. I was curious if there was anything available which offered more functionality, so I dug through the add-ons and I ultimately found Trace https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ble-trace/.
Here's the author's description:
I have been using it for a few days now and I've got to say I'm impressed with what it can do. A check on Browserleaks https://browserleaks.com/ confirmed it works as advertised. As an example, I set the "Hardware Fingerprint Protection" to indicate my PC has 4 cores and 8GB RAM, and sure enough the "JavaScript Browser Information" at Browserleaks indicated my 2 core machine has 4 cores & 8GB RAM.An extension to stop multiple advanced tracking techniques employed by websites all over the web.
Trace can protect against:
Canvas Fingerprinting (Video)
Audio Fingerprinting (Advanced)
WebGL Fingerprinting (New!)
JS Crypto Currency Mining
WebRTC Leakage
User-Agent Tracking (Advanced)
Hardware Fingerprinting
Browser plugin fingerprinting (Advanced)
Beacon Requests
Bad Top Level Domains
Hyperlink Auditing
HTTP Referrer Headers (Video)
Chrome Header Tracking
E-Tag Tracking
URL Tracking Parameters
Specific Tracking Cookies
I also used Trace alongside uBO-Scope https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ubo-scope/ to see how well it compared to UBO in blocking unnecessary connections, and I have found it to be on par with UBO on the majority of websites. This has resulted in me disabling UBO as I now find it isn't required.
The only setting in Trace I found which caused problems is "User-Agent Randomiser" - some pages on YouTube don't load correctly. As a result I've left this setting disabled.
If you're looking for an add-on to help protect your online privacy I suggest you give Trace a try. It's a keeper for me.
