Wifi Connection (SOLVED)

#1 Post by barnaby »

I now have had MX installed on my laptop for a few days. Most times when I log on it all goes fine. However sometimes, it seems randomly, when I log on it does not connect to my wifi. Everything else is ok. It is easily sorted, of course, but I am wondering why this should happen. The laptop is set up in my study, and the router is in the same room, so the signal strength is not a problem. Any ideas anyone please?

This sounds like a bug in Network Manager that shows up at times. Right-click the network icon in the Notification Area > Edit Connections ..., then on the screen that pops up highlight your network access point and click the Edit button on the right. On the next screen click on the General tab and check the box for "All users may connect to this network."

Thanks for the quick reply, I have followed the above instructions. The only way I will know if it has worked will be if I no longer get this problem when logging in. I will let you know.

Should work had exactly the same issue back in August, followed the solution that Jerry3904 has suggested and have not had any problems since.

I think you need to reboot

For everybody's future reference, I put this into the Wiki so we don't have to retype it every time:

https://mxlinux.org/wiki/applications/network-manager

Also added it to the MX FAQs.

So far, I have logged in and out several times, and it all seems to be working. The wifi connection is found every time. Thanks for the help.

OK, I will add SOLVED to the subject line, once I work out how to do it that is. I have searched around for the method without success so far. In my defence I should add that, up to now, all help for my distros has been via emails. This is the first time I have been involved with a forum.

In the first post there are a few icons up top. There is one that looks a bit like a pencil, that is the one you need. :)
