Hello everyone, hope it's alright to append to this thread. I had noticed the better fonts last week and was putting off the last batch of updates to do with fontconfig for fear of everything reverting back to how it was. After deciding to go through with the following updates fonts have returned to their usual state, most notably in Featherpad. Any way I can change it back or is this advised against? Thanks for your help.

Code: Select all

Start-Date: 2018-08-02 15:53:30
Commandline: apt-get --assume-yes -V dist-upgrade
Upgrade: fontconfig-config:amd64 (2.13.0-4~mx17+1, 1:2.11.0-6.7~mx17), fontconfig:amd64 (2.13.0-4~mx17+1, 1:2.11.0-6.7~mx17), libfontconfig1:amd64 (2.13.0-4~mx17+1, 1:2.11.0-6.7~mx17), libfontconfig1:i386 (2.13.0-4~mx17+1, 1:2.11.0-6.7~mx17

If you haven't done the "upgrade" downgrade yet, you could lock those packages in Synaptic. Note that this won't lock them with the apt or aptitude commands, there's another method to pin them in those tools.

I did this already because I have a feeling this will break GIMP 2.10.4. Perhaps the best solution would have been just to leave the new version in main.

I have not yet done the latest batch of upgrades.
Should I do them now or wait until they are corrected?

Edit: I have decided to wait.
